Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 July 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Rise English (“Rise English”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores and discloses your personal information when you use our service at riseenglish.com.au and related applications (the “Service”). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the Service:

  • Account information — your name and email address (and, if you sign in with Google, basic profile details).
  • Learning activity — quiz scores, levels, attempt history and progress.
  • Written work — essay text you choose to submit for AI feedback.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not see or store your full card details.
  • Technical information — basic device and log data, and small items stored in your browser (such as saved drafts and your selected year level).

3. How we use your information

We use your information to: provide and personalise the Service; save and display your progress and A–E indicators; generate AI feedback on work you submit; process subscriptions and payments; communicate with you about your account; keep the Service secure; and improve it over time.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the Service, under contract and only as needed:

  • Google Firebase — sign-in, database and hosting.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — when you request AI feedback, the essay text you submit is processed to generate that feedback.
  • Stripe — payment processing (when subscriptions are enabled).

Some of these providers may store or process data outside Australia; where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.

5. Children’s and students’ privacy

The Service is intended for secondary-school students, who may be under 18. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should review this policy and consent to your use of the Service. Parents and guardians may contact us to access, correct or request deletion of a child’s information. We collect from students only what is needed for learning and never more than necessary.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as required to meet legal, accounting or security obligations. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including access controls and reputable third-party infrastructure. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your data and respond promptly to any issues.

8. Your rights

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, or ask us to delete it. To make a request, contact us using the details below. You may also raise a concern with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you are not satisfied with our response.

9. Cookies and local storage

We use essential browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember things like your current year level and saved essay drafts. We do not use advertising trackers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the Service, and the “Last updated” date above will change.
